I know Perri beat me to it, but here is my take on the Lady and her dog. 

The County should thanks her for exposing the loopholes that make fraud in King County so easy to commit but instead they are punishing her.

Instead of dealing with the law's obvious flaws, they will bully her with threats and intimidation.  This is senseless prosecution and retribution for poking the sleeping giant in the eye.  Period.

Jane Balogh had a pretty good idea who was calling when the phone rang and the caller asked for Duncan M. MacDonald.

Duncan is the dog Balogh registered as a voter seven months before the November 2006 election.

Duncan's absentee-ballot envelope was signed with a picture of a paw print.

That is the only thing that gave it away, isn't that ironic?  Had she scrawled a signature they would have accepted it.

This is more appropriate for King County bloggers, but this Skagitonian gave $50 to Accountable Elections to fight for the "liberty and justice for all" that the people of King County haven't gotten and put Initiative 25 on the ballot so King County can elect their own auditor and their own elections division.  See the people of King County don't get what 38 other counties get - which is a chance to vote up or down on their elections director via voting for their auditor.  Only in King County - okay, Soviet Socialist Republic - is that not possible.  But when you have an elected official in charge of elections, this increases accountability.  Unlike with most, if not all, of the 38 other counties - King County's elected official will do just elections and not also finances, property, public records and licenses.  Just elections - so King County Elections under a CEO directly accountable to the people can remove their dogpiles from our elections.  So when I-25 makes the ballot (signatures just need verification and that another month will be needed to verify the signed petitions and yes, there's a cushion), please consider donating to I-25 to clean up the dogpiles!!!

Jane Balogh proved it. All you need to register to vote in King County is a utility bill. A phone bill will do. You don’t have to prove your identity any further than that, and you don’t have to prove your citizenship.

Sure, the registration application warns you “NOTE: Do not complete this form if you are not a U.S. Citizen”. It also asks you “Are you a Citizen of the United States?” and gives you the options of selecting “Yes”, or “No”. It goes further to warn you that

If you knowingly provide false information on this voter registration form or knowingly make a false declaration about your qualifications for voter registration you will have committed a class C felony that is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, or by a fine of up to ten thousand dollars or both imprisonment and fine. (RCW 29A.08.210)

And by "illegal voters", I mean people who don't actually cast an illegal vote but just wanted to point out how flawed the system is.

After making her point — how easy it is for a voter to register illegally — Balogh will be arraigned in King County Superior Court on Tuesday on a misdemeanor charge of making a false statement to a public official.

If she accepts the plea deal offered by prosecutors, they won't ask for jail time but will recommend she be sentenced to 10 hours of community service, pay a $250 fine and commit no other crimes for a year.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's website has a flash demo outlining her positions on Rising Gas Prices, Progress For America, Appropriations Bills, which includes increase veterans funding… apparently for the Canadian military. After all that is a picture of a doctor speaking to a person wearing a Canadian military uniform.

I could not make this stuff up. I wish I had to but sadly I do not.

REPORT: The Right Wing Domination Of Talk Radio And How To End It

The Center for American Progress and Free Press today released the first-of-its-kind statistical analysis of the political make-up of talk radio in the United States. It confirms that talk radio, one of the most widely used media formats in America, is dominated almost exclusively by conservatives.

The new report — entitled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” — raises serious questions about whether the companies licensed to broadcast over the public radio airwaves are serving the listening needs of all Americans.

While progressive talk is making inroads on commercial stations, right-wing talk reigns supreme on America’s airwaves. Some key findings:

– In the spring of 2007, of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top five commercial station owners, 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming was conservative, and only 9 percent was progressive.

Or maybe not a surprise - I must say I haven’t followed this man closely…

But yesterday morning I sat down to an interesting interview of Mike Bloomberg. One of many little gems:

“”It’s probably because of our bad educational system, but the percentage of people who believe in creationalism is really scary for a country that’s going to have to compete in a world where science and medicine require a better understanding,”

I could almost grant him an exception to the “no Republicans” rule…

Then last night I read I won’t have to… Mike is no longer a Republican.

And he says he’s not running for anything, but he keeps jogging along, making those running motions…

Interesting times.

In a nutshell this is the basis of Christianity. There is also the Nicene creed, which says in part:

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

The Washington times sheds light on a dark topic: Who really rules the Republican Party.

The party can be divided most usefully into evangelicals, small government conservatives, and the business community. Who holds the trumps?

It isn't the evangelicals, who get little beyond symbolic support on the national level. It isn't the true conservatives, who are ignored by George "I'm spending like a drunken sailor" Bush…

But business interests… Does anything take a backseat to making a buck? Apparently not, if we consider how the shrub handles the chicoms…

Those weapons we blame the Iranians for supplying to the Iraqi resistance? Made in China, it looks like. Made in China, just like a lot of Republican profits… Dirty chicom hands are ignored, just as we have long ignored the dirty House of Saud.
