Is your Senator forsworn?

Published by PerriNelson under Northwest

According to The Hill… “The Senate voted to pass the DC Voting Rights Act on Thursday which would add a voting member of the House of Representatives to the District and Utah.” I remarked earlier this week on why this bill is unconstitutional. Now every Senator that has voted for this bill is forsworn. Remember, they are required by the Constitution to take an oath to support the Constitution. By voting for a bill that, should it become law, is in direct violation of the Constitution they have broken their oath.

It’s an outrage and should not be tolerated. There is no honor among politicians anymore. But then, that’s a corollary of the old adage that “there is no honor among thieves.”

Seattle Sex-presso loses its cutting edge status to Maine

Published by LSU under Northwest

It was only a matter of time.  Once the sex-presso craze become common there was really only one way to go:  Topless.

Well, Seattle snoozed and Maine has beat us out to have the first topless coffee house:

Topless coffeehouse gives neighbors the jitters

‘No cameras, no touching’ rules enforced at controversial outlet

VASSALBORO, Maine - Cup size has more than one meaning at a new central Maine coffeehouse.

Servers are topless at the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop, which opened its doors Monday on a busy road in Vassalboro. A sign outside says, “Over 18 only.” Another says, “No cameras, no touching, cash only.”

On Tuesday, two men sipped coffee at a booth while three topless waitresses and a bare-chested waiter stood nearby.

Topless waitress Susie Wiley said men, women and couples have stopped by.

Congress no longer respects the Constitution

Published by PerriNelson under Northwest

People For the American Way Public Policy Department Legislative Representative Jen Herrick has posted a blog entry on The Hill Blog. Jen is excited that our Congress is about to enact a blatant violation of the Constitution.

Long lines at the polls on Election Day are a problem not to be ignored. But imagine if you had been standing in line to vote since 1801. That’s where you’ll find the nearly 600,000 Americans living in DC. Thankfully, their 200-year wait is nearly over.

Yesterday the Senate brought DC one step closer to the ballot box by clearing a procedural hurdle placed in the way of the District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009 (S. 160). I was in the Capitol as 62 Senators cast votes in favor of moving this bill forward. By the end of the week, it may very well be in the hands of the House. Then it’s on to the President’s desk. President Obama is a strong supporter of DC voting rights and a former cosponsor of the bill, which would give DC a full Representative with the same voting power as other House members.

The best news I’ve read today.

Published by PerriNelson under Northwest

Just saw a link to this up on twitter. A tip of the hat to @acmaurer.

WASHINGTON — Tom Daschle has withdrawn his name from consideration for secretary of Health and Human Services, the Associated Press reports.

Now maybe we can get this tax cheat fitted for an orange jumpsuit. Hypocrisy in public officials can only go so far after all.

“Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter. ” Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998, p. S4507.

Oh, but what am I saying. He’ll never be prosecuted for this. He is a Democrat after all.

[Update:A more detailed article is available from the Associated Press here. I guess there's still some reason to keep the Seattle Post Intelligencer around.
