The penalty for voter fraud

Posted by PerriNelson @ 2:30 pm

According to the State of Washington, voter registration fraud is a felony with severe penalties.

If you knowingly provide false information on this voter registration form or knowingly make a false declaration about your qualifications for voter registration you will have committed a class C felony that is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, or by a fine of up to ten thousand dollars or both imprisonment and fine. (RCW 29A.08.210)

However, if you commit voter registration fraud in Seattle, here’s what happens, according to the AP (via Northwest Cable News).

SEATTLE - A man who submitted phony voter registration forms in Seattle pleaded guilty in King County Superior Court to providing false information and was sentenced to 30 days of detention.

Thirty days of "detention". Does that mean he has to stay after school with the bullies and the kids caught smoking in the boy’s room?

Why do you think such an important issue is given such short shrift?  That this is a major issue for all Americans, (no matter what their politics), would seem to be obvious.

I dunno.  I think a guy who does it to use it in a fraudulant manner should be given a much harsher respnse then someone who did it as a public demonstration of the flaws in the system.

If there is anything that underpins our system more than "1 man 1 vote" I can’t think of it.  To me it’s sacrosanct.  Could any of you bring yourself to " make a point" in that way?  I sure couldn’t.  I also think crimes that keep others from being able to cast their vote should be fully prosecuted.
