Futility

Posted by PerriNelson @ 11:19 am

Take a look at the comments on this post. In fact take a look at any of Playin' Possum a.k.a. Dan Brown's comments or postings on NW Bloggers. Here we see the perfect example of a liberal with a severe case of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Dan hasn't posted on his own blog, Roadkill Journal since about four days after he joined the team at NW Bloggers in November of 2006. I guess he's decided that NW Bloggers sees a bit more traffic than his original blog did so he'll post everything he writes there.

I don't mind that Dan is a liberal. After all, NW Bloggers isn't a conservative blog. It's a group blog written by several bloggers from the Pacific Northwest. When you consider the political makeup of the Pacific Northwest you'd expect there to be many more liberal bloggers on board. They don't call this the "left coast" for nothing after all.

What I do mind is that Dan is closed minded, foul mouthed and childishly insulting to anyone that disagrees with him. Here are a few samples of his work…

Congress has terrible approval ratings because they haven’t taken out the shrub. The shrub is down to his fanatic core. I bet Al-Qaeda would get better ratings than congress if they made up for the error…

For those of you that don't know Dan, "the shrub" is his favorite way of naming President Bush. It's a childish way of insulting our president. Note though that Dan almost seems to be wishing for Al-Qaeda to assassinate him.

Classic Italian hyperbole was the main course on the Fooliani Express yesterday…

""Am I real Republican?" Giuliani asked the crowd while not naming his critics by name.  "I gave my blood for the Republican Party in New York.  I often say I was the first Republican mayor in New York in 25 years. And I was the first to remain one in 50 years.""

Rudy, would you mind giving another ten quick pints???

That's the complete content of one of Dan's most recent postings. Note that Dan makes a "clever" play on the name Giuliani, calling him "Fooliani". Is this the best we can expect from a liberal in political discourse? I would hope for better. Oh, and since the human body only contains about 6 quarts, or just two pints more than ten of blood, Dan appears to be wishing for the death of Rudy Giuliani here as well.

Commenting on Karl from Leaning Straight Up's post regarding Irena Sendler, here's what Dan had to say…

Whatever…

I for one - even if Iam the only one - am sick and tired of hearing about the holocaust. Sick of special gimmes based on holocaust guilt, sick of whether or not, if, how or how much…

I don’t give a rat’s ass if it happened or not.

I think that speaks for itself. Here's a comment he left to a very brief post regarding a possible plot to kill Vladimir Putin…

Is this a bad thing? Personally I don’t know of a single "world leader" I don’t think merits an ugly, immediate, and miserable death…

I would say that all of these little quotes are typical of Dan's mentality, and if that were all we saw from Dan I wouldn't mind it too much. After all, differing points of view do exist and here we can see the perfect example of the liberal mentality that wishes ill upon conservatives and the people that champion conservative causes. It really helps when you can see the way that people on both sides of an issue think.

Given these examples, I would have to say that Dan's side is filled with an irrational hatred of anything conservative. I think that he serves (in these examples) as the perfect example of what it is about liberalism that we don't like and he discredits his own side. There are occasions though when he can be lucid and makes some good points, but those seem to be more and more rare as time goes on.

As I said, if this and his more lucid moments were all that we saw of Dan I wouldn't mind. What I do mind is his foul mouth, and his abusiveness to his fellow bloggers and to site visitors that happen to comment.

Here's the opening paragraph to one of his comments on one of my posts…

I stopped reading at "the left"… Grow up, fool… It was a Repiglican President and Congress that passed the medicare drug entitlement…

We'll gloss over the "Repiglican" remark, but I don't appreciate being called a fool. How does it help one's argument to begin your response with an insult? Here's another, this time, just the opening sentence…

Now wipe the spit off your chin and keyboard…

Yet another instance… following this quote from one of Dan's posts…

Do US a favor… Pray for him to be seized by an uncontrollable urge to resign after hearing the news of Dick Cheney's fatal heart attack

Karl called him out on this, noting that it was a perfect example of "drinking the daily KOS" Kool-Aid. His response…

I follow no man or "god." Including KOS… Praying in this situation is stupid. What we need is deeds, not prayers. Prayers are what got the monks of Burma where they are.

Never mind that the monks of Burma weren't part of the discussion up to that point. Anyway, Karl responded that Dan had missed the point. Here's Dan's response…

You have no point, beyond perhaps that great minds think alike… Although you are obviously more aware of what kos says than I am… I have no idea…

Wishing for Cheney’s death is patriotism, not kos-ism. Cheney is the greatest threat this Republic faces - for that matter, that the world faces. He is evil. He was driven mad by 9-11 syndrome - he and many others…

And he’s the voice in the shrub’s head that the mad king mistakes for god…

The only assimilation that’s going on here is on your end… Methinks you’ve been assimilating ethanol… A proper thing, no doubt, for Republicans these days…

So his response is that Karl's been drinking too much, yet another insult. This is mild though. When Red Marilyn responded regarding Bush/Cheney derangement syndrome and noted that…

now we have it on good authority:  what got the Burmese monks "where they are" is religiousity and prayer.  Reason be damned.

Dan replied with this…

The rulers of Burma are very religious, too… Idiot… Just like the mad king…

I guess calling someone an Idiot is the way to win an argument. The comment thread ended at that point.

I'll get back to the name calling and insults in a minute. I thought it would be a good time to point out that our oh-so-tolerant liberal friend is a racist. He'll deny it, but here's a quote for you.

We should take them in here… They should have the common sense to emigrate here… But then Jews have always had stiff necks - just ask them.

Personally I'd trade them for the beaners any day… Deport one import the other…

"Beaners"? Why is it that when a conservative makes the mistake to use a racially charged slur such as "nigger" (and yes, it is a foul term to use, even if hip-hop artists use it all the time to refer to their own people) he's hounded to the point where he has to give up his job, but it's OK for a liberal to do the same with other races?

Nobody called him out on this. I will now. I think that it's foul to use any such term to describe people. Racism of any stripe shouldn't be tolerated. People cannot choose their race, and their race has nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of their character.

Back to the insults. On September the 11th, Karl posted a photograph of the explosion of one of the airplanes that crashed into the twin towers. The post was titled simply "Remember". Dan's response was typical (emphasis added this time).

Nope. I really don’t give a rip.

You however are obsessed. You need psychiatric help… From a nice liberal shrink.

And your obsession blinds you to the fact "we" brought this on "ourselves" with a century of exploitation and 60 years of support for zionism, especially the latter. No zionism, no arab nationalism, no wars, no oil embargoes - no OPEC. All of this is on the plates of the zionists and their lackeys.

You caused 9-11. I am blameless.

This over a photograph?

When I commented about the Jane Balogh case (remember the woman that registered her dog to vote?), remarking about the screwed up process for vetting voters in King County here's what he had to say…

As is the case with most of today’s "intractible" problems, the answer is enforcement.

Fuck it. There is no point in discussing this subject any longer. Neither political party has any credibility at all. Nobody does, as long as "If you knowingly provide false information on this voter registration form or knowingly make a false declaration about your qualifications for voter registration you will have committed a class C felony that is punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, or by a fine of up to ten thousand dollars or both imprisonment and fine. (RCW 29A.08.210)" means nothing.

If you have a plain, simple law with that kind of a whopper penalty and you - no matter who you are - can’t get anyone to prosecute anyone for direct violations of the law…

Then fuck it. It is obviously a silly law that only silly people worry about.

You’re either silly or you’re rabid over this governmental failure.

As for the dog lady… Prosecute her.

So, according to Dan we shouldn't be concerned about voter fraud because the King County prosecutor doesn't bother to prosecute under the law. My point was that voter fraud is so easy to commit because there are no checks to validate whether a person is complying with the law. Of course the answer is enforcement, but since there's nothing to validate it's hard to enforce.

The thing that's irritating about this particular comment is the implication that because I'm concerned about voter fraud I'm "silly". That and the plain statement that I actually am silly or rabid.

Why is it that liberals have to insult people they disagree with? Anyway I responded with what I think. One of the points in my response was

We have a law. It isn’t being enforced. That doesn’t make me silly. It makes the Prosecuting Attorney criminally negligent. Jane Balogh knowingly commited a felony, and she should be prosecuted for it, as should the thousands of other people that did so in 2004 and 2006.

Norm Maleng, may he rest in peace, neglected his responsibility in this most basic matter of citizenship and government trust, and it appears that Dan Satterberg is following in his footsteps.

I finished my response with

Without this issue being brought to the constant attention of the people it affects the most, legitimate voters, nothing will change. Meanwhile, the people who most benefit by this type of election fraud are all members of the single major political party that almost always challenges election results when they lose an election — The Democratic Party.

And of course Dan's response was

Oh climb of the box…

Isn't that typical. When you can't win an argument, tell your opponent to "shut up", or something equivalent.

It seems to me that this is the way it always goes when you argue or "debate" with a liberal. Especially one who thinks, as Dan claims, that he's more "conservative" than the people he's arguing with.

Facts don't matter. Present them and they are dismissed. Reasoned argument doesn't matter. You're either told to shut up or you're insulted.

Call them out on the outrageous things that they say and you're accused of inserting hatred into the discussion. Tell me though, don't death wishes for your opponents indicate hatred?

Karl had this to say about his invitation

When I invited him I knew his tendencies as I think most did.  He is rude, abusive and biased far above his stated political leanings.

I dont particularly get offended by his childishness, my daughter could throw better insults by age 8.

And you are right, he is a perfect example of the kos-mentality that attacks the messenger, not the message, and subtitutes ad hominem attacks for factual and rational discussion, though that is not entirely why i let him stay.

Iron sharpens iron, and I like a voice of dissent because it stimulates dicussion.  I’d rather it be a rational one, and occasionally he steps up to that, but other then inviting Mike Hood or Goldy, he is all we got, and at least he is occasionally entertaining where those other two guys are scary.

So I say let him stay, and  let his insanity be exposed to the light of day for all to see.  If I remove him, I only feed his belief that his is the only rational voice and we are all afraid of it.

Iron does sharpen iron. Dan certainly does stimulate discussion. Red Marilyn noted though that Dan doesn't seem to have very much iron to sharpen iron with. It's more of a steaming, and offensive to the olfactory organs type of organic substance.

There's no reasoning with the man though. So I'm done with it. I've been insulted by him. The other bloggers here have been insulted by him. Visitors to the site have been insulted by him (and isn't that a great way to build traffic). His comments and postings about conservatives are insulting to them. He resorts to name calling and childish invective rather than reason. His posts are full of hatred toward Israel, and anything that comes close to religion or moral values.

It isn't worth it to me. If this is the most reasonable "liberal" voice that Karl could find to join us at NW Bloggers, then what's the point of even staying. I'm through arguing with Dan. Sadly he'd probably take that as a victory.

I'm willing to risk that. I much prefer civil discourse.

Karl, please delete my account.
