In a very small story today, the ever-effervescent Thelma Guerrero - lead reporterette for all things latino at the Statesman-Urinal breathlessly "reports" that a "rally" is set for today in downtown Portland - scheduled to begin right about now.  The purpose?

To "push" Senator Gordon Smith  (el Gordo de Smitho) to support Amnesty.  What's the point?  The Pendleton Pea-freezer's been on board with this since before there even was an Amnesty bill, so why waste the time?  el Gordo knows full well that most citizens and legal immigrants are deeply opposed to the bill, so the only explanation for this "rally" is to provide further cover for el Gordo as he seeks to further undermine our nation.

With a "rally" like this to back him up, el Gordo can flash those artificially-whitened choppers of his at the camera and argue that given the strong support, he had no choice but to go with the "will of the people" (the folks who engage is such "rallies").  His full email-inbox and his fried fax machines don't photograph nearly as well.  And love him or hate him, it must be admitted that el Gordo is no slouch when it comes to choosing images.
