Finally, a Schrammie I can agree with

That is only half right, since I agree with Ken's Schrammies about half the time, even as I agree with Ken about half the time he opens his pie hole on the radio or on TV.

But this time, Ken gets complete Schramnesty from me:

The Schrammie: Rolling the political dice

Some "Schrammies" just can't wait until Wednesday.

For instance…

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out the point and purpose of the state Democratic Party walking to the edge of the political precipice to do nothing but take a pointless stand.

So, would Dwight Pelz, the Big Kahuna of the state D's, put the donkey back in the barn and come on down?

Seems Dwight and company - that would be the party's central committee - recently decided to throw some political weight behind Ehren Watada - that would be the Army lieutenant up on charges for refusing to serve in Iraq.

Update on State Auditor’s Office Theft…

Today, the Skagit Valley Herald gave out an update on the theft of the laptop from the Washington State Auditor's Office satelite office in Mt. Vernon last 1 February.  Apparently the State Auditor's Office's Jan Jutte deputy for legal affairs didn't stress enough to the Mount Vernon Police detective the personal information on the laptop on the first go-around on Feb. 28.  The inquiry took that long to place because of the auditor's schedule that needed to be pinned down.

A second attempt to get permission to "tell 3,000 public employees that their personal information may have been compromised by the theft of a laptop from the agency’s Mount Vernon office" was made on March 30th with success, however.  Yet, the State Auditor's Office given almost a month to prepare to release alerts to affected individuals… needed "another month because the very information the Auditor’s Office needed in order to mail notification letters had been stolen. The office had to contact the college, the cities and the school districts individually to obtain the relevant names and addresses".

Blair-Ism Explained

Today, Prime Minister Tony Blair announced his intention to step down - full text of speech.  Much will be said by many about a great man, but for now this Blair fan believes obliged to link to a Guardian editorial that explained Blair-Ism:

The two political constituencies that have been most hostile to everything Mr Blair does are the unreconstructed left and the misanthropic right, one nostalgic for class war, the other pining for a fictitious idyll of little England.

The overwhelming majority, meanwhile, want neither revolution nor reaction. They like gradual change. And Britain has been discreetly transformed: the minimum wage; free nursery care; tens of thousands more teachers, doctors and nurses - with higher wages; the working families' tax credit; the right to six months' maternity leave and two weeks' paternity leave; a statutory right to flexible working hours; the disability rights commission; the Freedom of Information Act; civil partnerships and the repeal of Section 28; restoring self-government for London; devolution for Scotland and Wales; the Human Rights Act; peace in Northern Ireland. Mr Blair's government has given millions of people unprecedented freedom to live as they choose and given them the wealth and security to do it.
