Fort Dix Plot: Right Wing Cheers, Left Wing Jeers

Posted by LSU @ 11:26 pm

The right wingers are rightly cheering law enforcement and the anonymous clerk for bringing this plot down.  Had it taken even one life, it would be too many.

If you peruse the right wing blogs the details and congratulations to law enforcement are universal.

But on the left….I wouldn't say the lefties are as mean spirited as they are about Cheney and Bush, but the general attitude is either a yawn, or some minimizing of the plot to make it no big deal.

Take Wonkette:

Ok. So, the plot was: six dudes from New Jersey buy some guns and storm Fort Dix. The Fort Dix that is full of lots and lots of Army reservists with way, way more guns. And, like, extensive military training and s**t. Yes, thank god these terrorists have been caught and locked up before they could be killed within minutes of deciding to carry out the dumbest f***ing terrorist plot we’ve ever heard of.

The trouble is that they had the means to access the base via the one guys job, and infiltrating the base armed would have let them generate a high body count.  The thing about military bases in the US, even major staging bases like this, is the average grunt is not sleeping with a loaded M-16 ready to jump up and do battle.  Sure the guys would have been brought down, but it would have taken some time to mobilize an armed response, just as a normal city has to deploy their officers and a swat team.

FDL’s TRex has decided it is just a convenient way to make Bush look good:

You know that Debbie Schlussel is turning clumsy-ass cartwheels of joy that there’s finally some Hot Islamic Jihadi Action for her to write about. And of course, their semi-questionable citizenship status has Michelle Malkin melting through her Victoria’s Secret white cotton lady briefs. You can go look at their blogs if you want. I don’t have the stomach for it. They’ll be dining out on these six losers and their woodland paintball games all the way to the 2008 elections and beyond. The Muslim Fanatics are, like, totally among us right now!! Time to start rounding them all up, eh, Internment Girl?

Never mind that we’ve done this song and dance before with those seven losers in a warehouse in Miami that got arrested last year. Never mind that this is all suspiciously well-timed for the Bush Assministration, whose poll numbers are tanking and whose pet idiot will be making his second (and undoubtedly awe-inspiringly bad) testimony before Congress the day after tomorrow.

No, this time it’s different! This time it’s important! This time the threat was REAL!

(“Wolf!” cried the boy, “Wolf! Wolf!”)

So, expect this to be in heavy rotation in the media cycle over the next couple of weeks. They’re going to milk it for every last possible fear-mongering, freedom-squelching, race-baiting drop that they can squeeze out. You’re actually going to miss the Anna Nicole frenzy. You think I’m kidding, don’t you?

Right.  It's all about Bush.  To them, everything is about Bush.

The Main Stream media has contributed to the jeering:

Olbermannwatch - (emphasis added):

OLBERMANN: And one other note today. The ultimate premise of the war in Iraq and the ultimate premise, certainly, of the Republican presidential campaign ahead, counterterrorism. The FBI claims it has broken up a plot to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey. The flaw, though, in the breathless reporting of the purported terror cell, the bureau infiltrated the six-person group after its members took video of themselves practicing with assault weapons, brought the tape to a photo store, and had it transferred to a DVD.

The details of the supposed plot don’t seem to hold together that well either, though that did not stop extensive and entirely credulous coverage on TV, the Internet, in print today. The men supposedly had plans to gain access to the base disguised as pizza delivery guys, then cut the power somehow, they, quote, “hit four, five, or six Humvees and light the whole place, and retreat without any losses.” And take the tape of yourselves practicing and have it copied at PhotoMat. In other words, the FBI has arrested six morons.

I would be remiss to ignore Kos:

The Six Stooges Meet the US Government

We can breathe easy again. Our country has been saved. Our ever vigilant Dept. of Homeland Security has foiled another evil plot to kill US soldiers. Don't you feel safer already?

According to the government, a cab-driver and three roofers and two store clerks were going to wage jihad against the entire United States of America by invading Fort Dix in New Jersey which is base to 90,000 trained soldiers. It's not a high school. What's wrong with this picture? Does the term Three Stooges come to mind?

But it's good to know that we have highly paid people looking out for our security and safety. According to authorities one of the plotters was also a dangerous expert in pizza delivery and had gathered valuable intelligence about the geography of Fort Dix because he had cased the joint while making deliveries to the base from his dad's pizzaria. These are the types of agents that we really need to be aware of. How much does your pizza delivery boy know about what goes on inside your house? Don't even think about ordering Chinese food. They have spies everywhere

I would love to tell this fool that such tactics are highly effective because the driver is a social invisible.  Sure he is watched, but he has a legitimate purpose so he has access.  This person has no clue how much dangerous info could thus be gleaned.

I'm not an expert on the law, but it seems that three of the six men arrested earlier this week for "allegedly" plotting to kill some military guys were here illegally. That being said what kind of justice do they deserve?

I'm suspect of this whole investigation in the first place. These six guys appear to be complete idiots who probably were just joking around rather than seriously planning to kill anybody. It seems to me that our reliable government is looking for yet another scapegoat with an unusual last name to divert attention away from Iraq and Kansas.

My question is what should happen to the three men who were in this country illegally? I contend they deserve the rights afforded to you and me, and shouldn't be taken to GITMO or some other hellhole. And if these guys can't afford the best lawyers — they're going to need them against Bush's cronies, especially Bush appointee Chris Christie in New Jersey — would you be willing to donate to the ACLU or like-minded group that is looking out for the rights of these likely railroaded men? I would.

Maybe I am wrong, and unfair, and all that, but the last thing on my mind is sudden concern for the rights of the 3 guys on expired Visas who plotted to kill my soldiers.

But he carries it even farther with a poll, and pay attention to the numbers:

Poll:

  • Would you be OK with Americans donating to the defense fund of the Fort Dix 6?

    •  Yes, chances are they were set up or exaggerated like Jose Padilla and WMD.  55% 30 votes
    •  No, they are terror suspects and don't deserve any financial help from the outside.  44% 24 votes

Hard to believe that such people exist.

Ah now this guy, he gets right to the point:

Tardo Terrorists.

I am writing, however, to ask this question: Why is American law enforcement only catching the low-hanging intellectual fruit of Islamic militancy? The half-wits? The stumbling, bumbling Islamo-idiots? After all, "The Fort Dix Six" are just another example in a long string of intellectually challenged suspects that have been arrested domestically.

He is right. We should hope an pray the terrorists get smarter…

My final example is one of the same ones from earlier, and in this he lionizes them as poor immigrants who were entrapped and oppressed, complete with another poll:

Let's not jump to conclusions

It would be easy to jump to conclusions after Tuesday's announcement that six so-called "Islamic Militants" were arrested for plotting to kill soldiers stationed at Fort Dix.

They’re Muslim, so they must be guilty, right?

So the police were bigotted…

No so fast.

For all we know, their attempts to purchase machine guns from federal authorities could’ve actually been entrapment. Police are inherently crooked, especially under this barbaric administration.

…and crooked, because of Bush…

These men, we are learning, are immigrants to this country. Sure, some of them might have gotten here illegally, but their intentions likely were to work hard and earn money for their families. And there’s nothing more American than that.

…the men were Innocent illegal immigrants just trying to earn a buck…

Officials say these persecuted religious minorities were going to use their jobs as pizza deliverymen to gain access to the base.

…who were persecuted and forced to haver menial jobs…

Really, Uncle Sam? Is that what you’re expecting us to believe?

Maybe they were delivering pies with extra cheese and pepperoni, and because they had funny last names, you decided to arrest them and draw attention away from the war in Iraq.

…who became convenient scapegoats for Bush and the War…

And remember, imperialist, if we weren’t in Iraq, and if there were no organized religions, none of this would’ve happened.

…correction, the imperialist War…(he slipped and criticized religion, which makes him a persecutor)

So let’s not jump to any conclusions yet, other than the one that clearly points to certain "Americans" being the worst this world has to offer.

…and finally, blame Bush.

Poll

  • Is the government lying about this "attack" planned on Fort Dix?
    •  Yes, it's to divert attention away from the disaster in Kansas 20% 8 votes
    •  Maybe, there might be some threat there, but likely the government blew it out of proportion  62% 25 votes
    •  No, it was legit, and soldiers' lives were in danger  17% 7 votes

I'm surprised there were seven clear thinking people at KOS.

Sorry, the left's reaction to this is sick and idiotic.  The real sad thing is that their biggest complaint is the the plans couldn't succeed, but if the plans did succeed, like say 9/11 then the cries would be against the administration for not stopping the attack, with claims that:

Bush knew!!!

Frigging idiots.
