When Will They Get It?

Updated: Made some corrections, expanded some points, added some quotes.

I happened to be listening to Sean Hannity in the car this week (not a regular occurrence, as I typically listen to Cd’s, when not on the cell phone), and Hannity asked the burning question of our time (concerning the Democrat Party/Liberals and the War):

When are they going to GET it?

I have been mulling this over since, and the only conclusion I can come to is:

Never.

Now, I am not sure who, exactly, Hannity was talking about, but when I say this, I am specifically referring to the Anti-War/solid socialist left wing. In the tradition of the Loyalists during the Revolutionary War, and the Copperheads during the Civil War (more appropriately. the War of Northern Aggression), the Anti-War left has consistently been anti-capitalist, pro-socialist, and against the very idea that America should be more than one nation among a world of equals; that our system is no better than - but certainly much worse than - other systems.

Are Humans A Significant Factor In Global Warming?

Over the past 25 or 30 years, the earth has been warming. That is a fact. What is in question is how much of that is attributable to humans. More specifically the topic of global warming has been about humans causing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. We hear about carbon footprints and carbon offsets and our need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Human caused carbon dioxide is what the global warming argument is all about.

What seems to be missing from the discussion is how much are humans responsible for greenhouse gases in general and specifically carbon dioxide? How significant of a factor in global warming is human caused carbon dioxide? First let's look at greenhouse gases. There are a number of greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide being one of them. Carbon Dioxide makes up 3.6% of all greenhouse gases. Carbon Dioxide is a naturally occurring gas. Sources of carbon dioxide are decaying plants, animals, volcanoes humans and the ocean.

Oregon: We Plan Different Here

Steve Buckstein penned a brief but cogent argument against Socialism Central Planning, but it could do with expansion.  The term, "Central planning" appears to suggest that "planning" is centralized - when in fact what we actually have in Oregon is a serious glut of "planners".  Under a central "planning" system, the "planners" would all be corralled by the state, as was the case in the Soviet Union and which is largely still the case in China.  By contrast, what we have here are herds of "planners" roaming throughout the governmental sectors.  We have "planners" at the state level, "planners" at the county level, "planners" at the city level - and at least in Portland, entire herds of "planners" at the regional level and dozens more at the transit agency level.  Frankly, it's time to thin the herds.

Nancy Pelosi is a Felon

She’s not convicted yet, but she has committed a felony for all the world to see. She did it deliberately, despite pleadings from the Executive branch of the United States government, and in violation of the Constitution. She should be arrested and prosecuted upon her return to U.S. soil. At the very least she should be censured by the House of Representatives, but it would be better if she were expelled, and then prosecuted.

I’m going to emphasize some of the text in the quotes that follow. Note that the emphasis is not there in the original.

Here’s the text of the law that she violated:

Did Pelosi Commit A Felony?

The Wall Street Journal suggests today that it's entirely possible that, in visiting Syria, she did.  Violation of the Logan Act is a felony, punishable by a fine, up to three years' imprisonment, or both.  It seems clear that Pelosi's diplomatic mission, in defiance of the wishes of both the White House and the State Department, is indicative of a view that the provisions in the Act somehow do not apply to her.  The Journal, in fact, suggests that Patrick Fitzgerald of the Scooter Libby case should now turn his attention to Ms. Pelosi.
