No, this isn't a post about global warming. This is about our little friend
- the brain parasite Toxoplasma gondii, which explains much of what we know about Liberalism today. The parasite, as it happens, targets the amygdala specifically - indeed with almost surgical precision, as the researchers state. This sector of the brain controls most, if not all, fear-reactions. And when rats, who normally avoid cat urine, are exposed to the parasite, they develop an attraction toward it. Ultimately, this is likely to cause the death of the rats, but transmission of the parasite back into cats, where it can once again resume sexual reproduction as a means of producing more genetically robust parasites.
So what does this have to do with Liberalism? More than you might imagine. Infection by the bacterium leads to targeted changes in the brain which result in an increased likelihood of destructive behavior - in the case of rats, this effect is documented by attraction, rather than repellence, toward the scent of predators.

I figured some of you, like Playin' Possum (and possibly y.t., I admit), would dismiss this as yet another April Fool's prank (how we will top 2007 April Fool's in the WA conservative blogosphere is beyond me). But last Saturday, the State (Spendthrift) Senate decided to vote on the state's three budgets - operating, capital and transportation. All of them are arguably unsustainable.
Now, the budget legislation as approved isn't online as of 6:50 AM Monday (April 2). But I am not pleased because the budgets focus on spending, not sustainability. Sustainability as in the ability to not cause a deficit which would trigger cuts (in no small part would affect my alma mater Skagit Valley College) and/or tax increases in the ways of higher tuition, higher fees and/or a general tax increase. I believe the vocal minority for more government programs with the money to lobby the state legislature, lobby the state legislature and did I say lobby the state legislature should be consulting with us the people before they add to the burden of government ops more programs.
