Liberal Tolerance, Respect Diversity, As Long As I Agree With It

Published by AndrewsDad under Northwest

Originally heard on the Michael Medved show.  University of Washington Professor David Barash, in today's Seattle Times says we need more bigotry towards religious presidential candidates.

Indeed, here is a controversial suggestion: It is high time for the electorate to reject a devout Catholic, Protestant, Eastern Orthodox, evangelical Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Zoroastrian, Shintoist, Wiccan or committed practitioner of any other faith or creed. Our problem isn't too much prejudice against devoutly religious presidential candidates (e.g., Romney), but not enough. Let's reject any religiously orthodox candidate for high office.

All The News Not Fit To Print

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

Western Iraq: In the past several months, major battles have occurred between Al-Qaeda and local Al-Anbar tribes, with dozens of fatalities on both sides and a concommitant weakening of Al-Qaeda in these sectors. Al-Qaeda accuses anyone helping to maintain stability in the area of being agents of the occupation, and their targeting of such individuals has led to a marked decline in popularity of the terrorist organization. As Shi'ites and Sunnis have both been attacked by Al-Qaeda, some 25 tribes in the region have collectively recruited an estimated 8500-man set of forces which are now engaged in offensive moves against the terrorists; some 80 of whom have been apprehended and are presently housed in Al-Ramadi prison.

Al-Qaeda's stated view that anyone who insists on fighting with "the Crusaders against the Muslims" (meaning Al-Qaeda) must be killed, whether Sunni or Shi'ite has further eroded support in the region. Indeed, the exposure of Al-Zarqawi and his subsequent death has been traced directly to Al-Qaeda's loss of support and standing among Sunnis.

To Ken Schram RE: John Edwards: Don’t be naive.

Published by LSU under Northwest

To start I wish Elizabeth Edwards all the best in her fight.  I lost a step-mom to cancer, and presently my mother is fighting cancer as well, so I am full of compassion to someone fighting for their life.  Cancer sucks.  Period.

And it is all the more painful when you were in remission and it reasserts.

Second, any hateful remarks against her over this I condemn in the strongest terms.  Period.   No buts about it.

But.

Any criticism of John Edwards about his motives and whether he will use this in his campaign?  Sorry, that is fair game.  That is a matter of evaluating his values and ethics, and for a person who wants to be my president, expect me to challenge your values.

Ken, you said:

His wife has incurable cancer.

He's still going to run for president.
