So Much For Green

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

The power grids in France are largely supplied by nukes, rather than coal or gas-fired plants.  The next generation of nuke plants are anticipated to be among the most environmentally-friendly power sources ever devised.  Naturally, the French are up in arms about it, and tens of thousands turned out today to protest construction of next-gen plants; demanding investment in wind and solar instead.  Although it's laughable to expect that a country such as France could derive all of its power requirements from such sources, one can only hope that the protestors succeed in driving their point home.  As the most nuke-dependent nation in the world, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the event that their push succeeds.  It's really time to let the holier-than-thou show us what they've got.

The Inconvenient Environmentalist

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

"Do as I say, not as I do" guru AlGore has reportedly received over half a million dollars in royalties from zinc mining operations on his land in Tennessee.  The sites, closed for the past three years, spewed thousands of pounds of toxins into the surrounding environment and are slated to re-open later this year.  State officials say that the overall environmental record of the mines is good; order naysayers to squeal like a pig.  It ain't easy, being green.
