Why I Want Barrack Against Rudy or Mitt…

Oh, this will set off the wingnuts of the left-wing variety but I so, so want Barrack Obama for the Democrats.  At least, if he becomes President - he's got clarity and character and decency.  I encourage all to watch him explain his 25 November 2002 position on the war in Iraq on Illinois TV.  Do I agree with him?  Not really, but I acknowledge he had the foresight to ask the tough questions.

Barrack Obama will also give my preferences Mitt Romney or Rudy Giuliani a race* - questioning at every turn the Republican Party and providing for a healthy debate that will unify this country around something good and hopeful… and victory in Iraq - something Barrack will end up doing with his hard-left defeatist statements of late that set off Australian PM John Howard

Global Warming Alarmist: Aliens Can Save Us!

The former defense minister of Canada has not only bought AlGore's hype about Global Warming - he's taken things a step further.  He's calling on governments worldwide to offer up the "secrets" that they've obtained from crashed UFOs, noting that "advanced technology from extraterrestrial civilizations offers the best hope to 'save our planet' from the perils of climate change".  Can we now officially note that Global Warming hysterics are loons, and that AlGore is not only a loon but a hypocrite as well?  There's nothing to see here, folks - move along.

But wait - there's evidence that Martians are driving gas-guzzling SUVs as well.  Because if Global Warming is All Your Fault - as AlGore and his pals claim, then there must be Martians causing the same sort of problem on their planet.  We'll keep looking for them.

Re-Inventing The Wheel.

Wow, we have plans for a spiffy six billion-dollar bridge to fix all of the problems on the Portland/Vancouver I-5 bottleneck.  How stupid is that?

We could put a new bridge in for less than half the cost, if it was meant for vehicular traffic, but no.  Those Who Know Better insist that it should carry light rail and pedestrian and bicycle accommodations as well.  And it's the "light rail" thing that really blows the whole cost picture.

Well, if our "leaders" are so big on fixed-rail transport, then why don't they take advantage of existing infrastructure?  There's a heavy rail bridge just downstream.  With a little negotiation, you could see commuter trains running from Vancouver to Portland's Union Station - where "light rail" transport will soon connect.  Duh.

Must-reads on Goregate

1) Leaning Straight Up: More Gore HYPOCRISY - Gore buys carbon offsets… from HIMSELF.

Read the post and then say what you want about global warming, but acknowledge the hypocrisy and economic interest Al Gore has in making the global warming issue as big as his greed.  I am disappointed, but not surprised in the least.

2) I also believe there is some global warming.  But Dennis Prager's blog has made note of debate between Pacific Northwest scientists about glacier growth and retreat - a key factor in determining the scope of global warming

3) Paloulistics also caught Gore's lack of guts to take questions after lecturing the media.

Time for Olympia to Set Priorities

Sound Politics has been riding the issue of out-of-control felons, as has this blog.  The Seattle P-I today published a devastating expose of the situation, courageusly noting that:

Gov. Chris Gregoire, smarting from a stream of criticism about recent failures within the department, has demanded a report on community supervision from Corrections Secretary Harold Clarke. On Wednesday, she issued a strongly worded statement demanding that he find a way to keep violators locked up.

Yet in 2003, when Gregoire was Washington's attorney general, she was well aware of a new Corrections Department policy to quietly downgrade felons rated highly likely to reoffend — and requiring strict supervision — to a status requiring minimum oversight, if any.

The State Democrats also want to give felons the franchise, knowing Democrats probably will gain votes.  At least the outcry of late has forced them to limit the expansion to those whom owe fines.
