Washington Democrats: Still Soft On Crime After All These Years…

Published by Aurelius under Northwest

You would think that the Democrat Party wouldget tired of doing things that get them labeled as Soft On Crime.  But, as Ronaldus Maximus said, "There they go again"…

Courtesy of the News Tribune:

Washington has sent 285 criminals to prison for the rest of their lives under the “Three Strikes, You’re Out” law, but about 10 percent of them would get out sooner if the Legislature changes the definition of what crimes are “strikes.”

Sen. Adam Kline, D-Seattle, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is proposing to do just that. He wants to rewrite the law that voters passed in 1993 and exclude offenders whose three crimes were second-degree assault or second-degree robbery.

He also wants to make the changes retroactive, which means 25 to 27 inmates serving life without possibility of parole would be eligible for shorter sentences.

Hmm. Now WHY would he want to do this?

Gnus Blips

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

Homosexual movement wins a minor victim victory in the USA as another looney federal judge in Boston decides that school kids should be taught all about "gay marriage".  Look for this one to be reversed on appeal.

Slim Pickin's?  Not really.  Although as Jack Bogdanski notes, it's apparently illegal to blow your nose in Portland, others note no restrictions are presently in place regarding booger-mining.  Eat hearty, friends!

And what's being referred to as an American Armada has sort of shown up out there in that peaceable set of kingdoms that we call the "Middle East".  Yup, the USS Eisenhower seems to be doing a little sight-seeing cruise in the area, along with some friends.  Unbelievably, our good buddies in Iran aren't leaping at the opportunity to sell brightly colored ribbons, camel dung, or enriched uranium to the visiting Americans.  How weird is that?  You'd think they'd want our business.  Oh well, perhaps they have more pressing matters.

The Problem With Appeasement

Published by Aurelius under National, War on Terror

Hat tip to OneFreeKorea, for pointing out this piece from NRO by John O'Sullivan:

The deal just keeps getting better for Kim Jong Il

Rudyard Kipling put it well a century ago:

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:—
“Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.”

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

The Dane in this week’s crisis is Kim Jong Il, the grand panjandrum of North Korea. Last week there was modified rapture in the chancelleries of the six great powers engaged in talking to Kim—Japan, China, Russia, India, South Korea and the United States—because they had negotiated a brand new compromise with him.

American Incursion Into Mexico

Published by Aurelius under National

Courtesy of the BBC:

Mexico's parliament has condemned what it says is a border violation by US workers building a controversial barrier between the two countries.

Legislators say workers and equipment building a section of the barrier have gone 10 metres (yards) into Mexico.

Mexican legislators said they had photographs and video, taken on Monday, of the workers and heavy-duty construction equipment that showed them about 10 metres inside Mexico near the border city of Agua Prieta and the town of Douglas, Arizona.

The Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa said she had complained to the US authorities and that the men and equipment had been withdrawn.

AACK! PHTTT! GLOBAL WARMING!

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

So successful has the media been at scaring you to death that a new report fresh over the transom indicates that little children are now losing sleep as they worry obsessively over the "issue".  Way to go, gang.  "While many adults may look the other way, this study should show that global warming is not only hurting the children of the future, it's affecting the welfare of kids now.

"By raising awareness amongst today's young, hopefully we are improving our chances of reaching a solution.''

What idiocy!  When you're scaring kids to death with your stupid scenarios, you're simply paralyzing them.  And to what end?  "Reaching a solution" to a nonexistent boogeyman?

"Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please." —Mark Twain

GOP Debate Schedule

Published by SVC Alumnus under National

(Hat-tip: Giuliani Blog)

  • May 3rd - Ronald Reagan Presidential Library
  • May 15, 2007 (Columbia, South Carolina), hosted by the South Carolina Republican Party
  • September 6, 2007 ( New Hampshire), hosted by Fox News
  • September 27, 2007 (Baltimore, Maryland), hosted by PBS
  • October 14, 2007 (Manchester, New Hampshire), hosted by ABC
  • January 22, 2008 or earlier (New Hampshire), hosted by Fox News
  • February 1, 2008 (Columbia, South Carolina), hosted by the South Carolina Republican Party

Finally, a disclaimer: I am endorsing both Giuliani and Romney, as long as the fight is clean.  First dirty punch by one on the other, the other guy gets the sole endorsement.  McCain doesn't stand a chance (sorry, RMK) and the rest of 'em (i.e. Huckabee, Tancredo, Hunter) will have to wait for a meltdown of these two.
