Good legislation in Olympia

I thought we conservatives could use the morale boost and something good to fight for - thanks to the State Senate Republican Caucus Newsroom who produced this press release - of which I excerpt the first two paragraphs:

OLYMPIA…State Sen. Val Stevens, R-Arlington, introduced a bill today to limit the need for small businesses to buy multiple business licenses. 

“Being a small business today isn’t easy,” Stevens said. “Everybody wants a piece of your income. In fact, small business owners tell me they are being taxed and ‘regulated’ to the point where they wonder if it’s worth it. Each city charges a different fee – really a tax ─ that’s good for one year. Along with the fee, businesses must fill out a ton of paperwork. Fees range from $15 to $130, depending on the size of the city.”  

SB 5471 is the bill.

But Speaking Of Democrats…

It looks as though Global Cooling may have killed off the last of the Neanderthals.  This cooling period occurred some 24000 years ago, but it was likely All Your Fault, somehow.  After all, our present hominid species was around then, so we undoubtedly set too much CO2 into the air and triggered a Global Cooling incident that wiped out our peaceful, freedom-loving Neanderthal relatives.

Ah, Johnny, We Still Don’t Know Ya

Rep. Murtha was caught on tape negotiating bribes with Arab sheiks during the FBI's Abscam investigation in 1980. The Abscam investigation was conducted by Jimmy Carter's Justice Department, not right-wing Republicans.

On tape, Murtha told the undercover FBI agent: "When I make a f***in' deal I want to make sure that I know exactly what I'm doing and … what I'm sayin' is, a few investments in my district …"

It is a profound and shocking fact that Murtha even showed up at this meeting, knowing he was going to be negotiating bribe money with Arabs.

While we can appreciate Coulter's introduction of a few salient facts as presented above, she is completely wrong on one point: it is not "shocking" that Murtha appeared at the "sting" operation - all that is shocking is that the Democrat congressman is not sitting at present in a federal penal institution.  This would likely be the situation today, if not for the fact that the lamestream media intruded into an investigation and plastered their "findings" all over the place - affording Murtha time to escape most of the fallout.

It Takes A Village

Remember when Shrillary ran out with that little book?  Wasn't that fun?  But something happened on the way to the witch-doctor's hut: that little village in Malibu decided that they don't like her all that much.  The megabucks that she was counting on collecting from the village well may not be there for her to scoop up.  Even worse, music mogul David Geffen apparently had some harsh words to throw into the mix:

"Everybody in politics lies, but they [the Clintons] do it with such ease, it’s troubling,” Geffen had said.

"I don’t think anybody believes that in the last six years, all of a sudden Bill Clinton has become a different person,” Mr. Geffen says, adding that if Republicans are digging up dirt, they’ll wait until Hillary’s the nominee to use it. “I think they believe she’s the easiest to defeat.”

Is Religion A Valid Issue?

For me, religion is one of many valid issues when I am looking at a candidate.  There are some religions that I would rule out a candidate, Aryan Nations and Scientology come to mind.  Another that I would rule out would be anyone, such as this guy, who belongs to a church that believes the following

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

Yet another professional sports organization wants a handout

As most of you that visit my website regularly know, I’m a motorsports fan. I’m firmly of the opinion that racing is almost the only true sport and that the rest are just games. I’ve been a racer for several years and I’ve got a fabulous 11 second 1979 Corvette for sale.

That doesn’t mean that I think we need yet another racetrack in western Washington. And it surely doesn’t mean that we need to shell out another $184 million to yet another professional sports organization to have NASCAR come to visit once or twice a year.

NASCAR is one of the biggest racing organizations in the world. The amount of money flowing through NASCAR makes the NHRA look like toy cars. Why they need a public handout to build a stadium baffles me. Except of course everyone want’s a piece of the public purse.

Is religion a valid issue with regard to politics?

Karl, at Leaning Straight Up recently suggested a topic to the bloggers at NWBloggers.com. The topic: Is religion a valid issue in regards to politics? He offered the “bonus” question: “Should” religion be an issue? So, here’s my take on it.

I think that religion is a valid issue with regard to politics, and I believe it should be an issue. I don’t think that it should be the primary issue by which we choose our leaders though.

Our nation was founded upon religious principles, by religious men. They declared our independence from Great Britain over two hundred years ago. A part of the justification for that act is in these words:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Election 2008: Hillary sets her price for endorsements - With bonus video

I found this a very interesting story for three reasons.

First it is yet another example of the wink nudge quid pro quo system of dealing in DC:

Clinton defends consulting contract

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday denied that her campaign traded money for an endorsement from one of South Carolina's most influential black politicians.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Clinton responded to questions about the consulting contract her campaign negotiated with state Sen. Darrell Jackson, who last week endorsed her candidacy rather than of top rivals John Edwards or Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

"Senator Jackson was someone who was involved in my husband's campaigns. He was someone we turned to for political advice and counsel and I'm proud to have him on my team," Clinton told the AP.
