Something to make you wake up angry…

Published by SVC Alumnus under Washington

In the great green-red madness called Washington State.

Remember when the House had hearings about felon suffage?  Well, the State Senate - being as dense as a dark star - is going to try their own bill out for a spin.  Try SB 5530.

Being a subscriber to the State Republican e-mail lists, I dug through my e-mails and I thought - thanks to listening to Dennis Prager too much - it was Christmas with a pretty girl under a tree with a bow on her!!!  Apparently Mary Lane of the Dino Rossi campaign sent out this press release with research as to how felons vote Democrat and only Democrats support felon suffrage dated April 28, 2005 which I post for posterity for you all - at the risk of reopening old wounds, a risk negated by some trims:

A Great First Step

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

Unemployed people who cannot speak English will have to show they are learning the language or face losing benefits, the government has announced.

Such headlines are long overdue in our own media; American bureaucrats are too busy bending over backwards (and spending your money) to ensure that signs cautioning you to wash your grubby paws and to keep toddlers away from water-filled five-gallon buckets are dully printed in English and Spanish.  Frankly, they'd be doing the genepool a huge favor by not printing such things in any language.

12 Feet Of Snow - But Who’s Counting?

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

12 feet of snow in upstate New York in 9 days.  Residents say "Hey - it snows here."  Meanwhile, the President of the Czech Republic publicly questions AlGore's sanity.

This is a view that should be adopted by more folks, but unfortunately this isn't about science - it's about religion.  Over in the U.K. the nutballs now are complaining that Valentine bouquets are "bad for the planet".

Environmentalists warned that "flower miles" could have serious implications on climate change in terms of carbon dioxide emissions from aeroplanes.

Andrew Sims, the policy director of the New Economics Foundation, said: "There are plenty of flowers that grow in Britain in the winter and don't need to be hothoused.

"Air freighting flowers half way round the world contributes to global warming.

"You can argue the planes would be flying anyway but the amount of greenhouse gases pumped out depends on the weight of the cargo."

Religion in Politics

Published by Aurelius under National

While the US Constitution speaks out against State sponsored or sanctioned religion, it in no way addresses the practice of religion, or refers to it in any way as a qualification  - or disqualification - for political office.

While being what I like to call a Lassiez Faire Agnostic (there may be a god, but if there is, he is most likely far to busy with far more important things than worrying about whether I am smart enough to cross the street without his quidance and protection) I certainly understand, and even empathize, with people who adere to various religious beliefs.

Guys! Now You Have An Excuse!

Published by Aurelius under Just For Fun

Forgot to order Roses for your Valentine?

Fear not!  Now you have a handy excuse, that also shows how “in touch” and “caring” you are!

Courtesy of the Telegraph, we now know that:

Valentine Bouquets Are Bad For The Planet

The Valentine’s Day bouquet — the gift that every woman in Britain will be waiting for next week — has become the latest bête noire among environmental campaigners.

In the past three years, the amount of flowers imported from the Netherlands has fallen by 47 per cent to 94,000 tons, while those from Africa have risen 39 per cent to 17,000 tons.

Environmentalists warned that “flower miles” could have serious implications on climate change in terms of carbon dioxide emissions from aeroplanes.

Yes, that’s right!  Now you can save $40 on Roses, and be Enironmentally Correct!
