Hillary: Preachy, Screechy and Politcally Tone Deaf
Mrs. Clinton is firing on all cylinders:
- she told a pro-Israel group she thinks we ought to talk some more with Iran, and maybe then, if that doesn't work…talk some more.
- And today she channeled Hugo Chavez when she told the DNC Winter meeting that in aid of Energy Independence she would expropriate the oil companies' biggest profits ever for an energy independence fund. Only she said "I would take" the oil profits, not expropriate (via taxing the bejeebers out of them).

That Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy…
So yesterday, in a speech before the DNC, Hillary Clinton proposed that we tax record-high oil profits and put them into an alternative energy fund. The right-wing blogosphere immediately, inexplicably, and no doubt organically all made the exact same…
We shouldn’t chat;" we should walk away… I for one - and I don’t care if I am the only one - don’t give a damn about holocausts, past or future… And I’m tired of hearing about them. Sensible Israelis should pack. Give the rest of them, their apocalyptic supporters and their enemies Darwin awards…
Exxon and Shell together made close to 80 billion dollars profit last year while neither company proposed or began even a single major new infrastructure project in the US - no refineries, no nothing… And while Exxon continued to stonewall on paying off on the Valdez cleanup. We can expect similar profit reports from the rest of the oil industry, which, like BP, is unwilling to even maintain their own investments, waiting instad for them to break down before beginning even the simplest of repairs…
Of course, when they break down, speculators drive the prices and profits still higher…
Unless you are a major stockholder or a speculator, you deserve a Darwin award if you aren’t on Hillary’s side. I think she stops far short of where she should. The oil companies should be required to reinvest in their US holdings and any monies left over should be expropriated 100% and invested in government owned nuclear power.
No, BoRev.net, she didn’t suggest taxing them. What she said was "take" the oil profits and "put them in a Strategic Energy Fund". Watch the video. It’s only 35 seconds long. I politely gave Mrs. Clinton the benefit of the doubt and assumed she meant tax them, rather than outright Hugo Chavezzing them.
As anyone else old enough to remember knows, building new refineries, exploring for new resources within the continental US or building, or even turning on existing, nuclear power plants has been foiled at every turn by a combination of environmentalists, the EPA and NIMBYism. (Remember the WUPS fiasco)? Here in Kitsap County, we had the opportunity to buy a power producing self-contained garbage incinerator that produced very little emissions for a million bucks and potential profit margins down the road. It would pay for itself in only a few years, and by now would be paid for. When I spoke to a conservation-minded County official about it and why it was quashed, it was a combination of politics and NIMBYism. Now we pay to truck our refuse somewhere else and make it someone else's problem.
