More Tracks - and Junkie Politicians

Royce Pollard.  Whatta guy!  He's the Mayor over in Vancouver, and he's announced that he won't support a new I-5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver unless it includes … light rail.  His annual "state of the city" address was an incoherent mixture of AlGore's take on global warming, the benefits of compact fluorescent bulbs, hybrid cars, and of course - light rail. At a time when he should probably be drinking pomegranate juice to help his prostate, he's clearly drinking a lot of Kool-Aid.

One thing France knows how to do is recycling.  And they're recycling unused and abandoned light rail tracks.  At the rate that Portland and Metro are spending your money on these things, there should be a lot of empty tracks for you to ride around on in the next decade or so.

Ooops! I’ll Take Deportation For A Hundred, Alex.

Some days, it just ain't worth chewing through the leather restraints.

BALTIMORE — Federal agents taking a break from an unrelated assignment yesterday arrested 24 illegal aliens at a Fells Point 7-Eleven after the men attempted to solicit "underground" employment from the agents.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were stopped in the convenience store parking lot when the group of Hispanic men approached the agents' unmarked vehicles, ICE spokesman Marc Raimondi said.

We need more agents driving vans!

PETA Trial Starts

In a strange but likely long overdue turn of events, two PETA employees are charged with 21 counts each of animal abuse, among other things.  Although PETA has long been viewed as a bunch of bunny-huggers by virtue of their strong opposition to any human use of any form of animal life, this trial has its origins in the fact that two of the Norfolk VA. headquarters employees  are alleged to have taken animals for adoption, then immediately killed the animals in the safety of their van.  Bags of dead animals turned up in nearby commercial dumpsters, prompting a surveillance operation by local police.

Liz Cheney to Hillary and the retreat-ists: Retreat is not an option

She gets it.  Loud and clear.  Too bad the idiot retreatists (defeatists) are not listening:

Retreat Isn't an Option

Sen. Hillary Clinton declared this weekend, " I'm in to win." Anyone who has watched her remarkable trajectory can have no doubt that she'll do whatever it takes to win the presidency. I wish she felt the same way about the war.

You know, that right there is a profound thought all on it's own.  And it dovetails to Hillary's former position supporting the war.  As long as supporting it was in her political interest, fine.  But now that public tide has been swayed by the constant barrage of negative stories and demagoguery, she dumps the war and the troops like an ugly prom date.

Black Caucus: Whites Not Allowed

Here is a great way to build racial understanding and promote equality:  Don't let the white people in.

Black Caucus: Whites Not Allowed

As a white liberal running in a majority African American district, Tennessee Democrat Stephen I. Cohen made a novel pledge on the campaign trail last year: If elected, he would seek to become the first white member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Now that he's a freshman in Congress, Cohen has changed his plans. He said he has dropped his bid after several current and former caucus members made it clear to him that whites need not apply.

And he is a liberal white guy at that.  But the message s clear:  A white liberal is still too white.

Cohen said he became convinced that joining the caucus would be "a social faux pas" after seeing news reports that former Rep. William Lacy Clay Sr., D-Mo., a co-founder of the caucus, had circulated a memo telling members it was "critical" that the group remain "exclusively African-American."

The State of the Union Address

I won't deconstruct it, others will do a much better job.

What I will do is post one excerpt the illustrates that the President does have a realistic view of the enemy we face, and the larger threat it represents.  Emphass added. Via Michelle Malkin

In the minds of the terrorists, this war began well before September 11th, and will not end until their radical vision is fulfilled. And these past five years have given us a much clearer view of the nature of this enemy. Al Qaeda and its followers are Sunni extremists, possessed by hatred and commanded by a harsh and narrow ideology. Take almost any principle of civilization, and their goal is the opposite. They preach with threats … instruct with bullets and bombs … and promise paradise for the murder of the innocent.
