The Up Side Of Trans-Fats

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

Small wonder that the abortion-on-demand crowd wants to ban trans-fats from human consumption:  it turns out that a recent study indicates that women who consume them exhibit markedly reduced fertility rates.

Scientists found that for every two per cent increase in the number of calories a woman got from trans fats instead of carbohydrates, her risk of infertility increased by 73 per cent.

Can't have that sort of thing going on, now can we?  We're not going to get a lot of embryonic stem-cells if women are allowed to eat fries and doughnuts!  Clearly, trans-fats are a threat to science and to life as we know it.  They must join the long list of "banned" materials.  Reading material will likely join that list in the near future.

You cannot be trusted to make decisions on your own, so obviously, governmental bureacrats who are much wiser than you must intercede.

Oh! To Be A Kid In Middle-School Again!

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

Well, "middle school" didn't exist for a lot of us.  It was "elementary, Junior high, then high school".  But North Clackamas School Board's newly-approved curriculum kind of makes you want to return to the carefree days of eighth-grade life.  They're going to teach kids how to use condoms!  Topics also include Pornography and Homosexuality!  Sweet!  We never got to watch "Debbie Does Dallas" in eighth grade!

You see, the kids are going to have sex anyway - and according to "polls" by the district, many already are.  Ummm…gee.  How uncool would it be to check the "no" box in response to a question about whether or not you've ever had sex?  Do they really know what the kids are up to?

MMM. Warming.

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

"By Golly, I'm gonna do something, even if it's wrong!"  That pretty much seems to sum up the attitude of Pelosi et.al.  After all, she's got a long record of global warming advocacy - and a chance to run with it now.  So hang onto your wallet; change is coming.  It won't be pretty, and it will have absolutely no effect on global cycles.  But at least Pelosi and company will "feel good".  And that's all that really matters.

No matter what you've heard, global warming remains a theory. Yet Kyoto proponents treat it as fact, thus beyond dispute. They want to close off debate, as if we lived in some kind of totalitarian dictatorship.

It's All Your Fault.

The 11/7 Republicans

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

It would be difficult to come up with a more succinct succinct take on the politics of El Gordo de Smitho, the junior Senator from Oregon, than this piece that compares the transition from rabid to "9/11" Democrats vs. the transition underway among the "11/7" Republicans.  11/7 Republicans like el Gordo are running scared in the wake of the last election cycle, and they're doing whatever it takes to ensure that their values are not shot down.  As it happens, however, their values involve not their country, nor even their states.  Nope; they're confined essentially to one thing, and one thing alone:  staying in office.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!

Published by MaxRedline under Northwest

“I’m not just starting a campaign, though, I’m beginning a conversation with you, with America,” she said. “Let’s talk. Let’s chat. The conversation in Washington has been just a little one-sided lately, don’t you think?”

With that comment on her website, Hillary Clinton today announced her long-anticipated Presidential campaign.  As noted previously, given her staff's recent attack on Barak Hussein Obama, the claws were being unsheathed and so the announcement comes as no surprise.  As local radio talk-show host Jeff Kropf asked last week, "Is America ready for a black president?"

It seems reasonable to believe that America may indeed be "ready" for a black president - or for that matter, a female president.  The question to be examined in the coming months is less a matter of race or gender than the following:  are we ready to elect  a relatively unknown black - or an already too-well-known woman?

Been Shopping

At the *NEW* Wal-Mart Super center that just opened on South Hill, in Pierce County!

No longer have to make that long and painful 3.5 mile drive to the Wal-Mart Mega-Center at the South Hill Mall.

They have brought with them (so far) an Applebees, with Popeyes Chicken (The Shiznit!), Panda Express, and I would estimate at least 6 more storefronts on the property (all currently under construction).

The big losers?  The Subway store down the street (there is one inside of the Wal-Mart).  And now Albertsons and Fred Meyer will have to get aggressive (both have stores within 1 mile).

Looks like a net gain of jobs to the area to me.  But then, I am just looking at life through Capitalist/Consumerish lenses (available in the Wal-Mart Optometry kiosk).
