It’s All About “Fairness”.

Published by MaxRedline at 12:28 pm under Northwest

Democrats seem eager to push through a new "Hush Rush" bill under the guise of "fairness".  It'd bring "more balance to the media", or so they claim.  In point of fact, it would do nothing of the sort.  Liberals control most of the print and television media, but since the 1987 demise of the "fairness" doctrine under President Reagan, conservatives found a toehold in the relatively uncharted area of talk radio.  Once that happened, the medium exploded as conservative talk radio launched once obsure stations off the charts.

You can imagine how the Dems felt about that.  So they launched their own, "progressive" talk shows.  The only problem with it was the fact that in a free marketplace, they all failed - and failed miserably.  Well, nobody said it was going to be easy.  Undeterred, they set up their own "network" and brought in wanna-be funny guy Al Franken to spearhead the assault on listeners' ears, hearts, and minds.

The Airhead America Network is in bankruptcy now, and has lost most of its big-league stations.  They reportedly still owe Franken around $360,000.  Well, nobody said it was going to be easy.  And since they can't seem to get their "message" out on the radio waves in a free market environment, Dems are pushing for a new "Fairness Doctrine".  Pretty standard for them: if you can't compete on an equal footing, pass a law or take it to court.  There's got to be a way around fair competition.
