Zero Tolerance

Published by MaxRedline at 1:38 pm under Northwest

It seems kind of odd, in view of the fact that most vegetators - oops, make that "educators" are "tolerant" leftists.  After all, leftists are always proclaiming their "tolerance".  But in most cases, their "tolerance" extends only so long as you agree with them.  Take a contrary stance, and they'll do their best to drop a safe on your head.

A recent example of "tolerance" comes to us from Rhode Island.

Thank you Max for that splendid example of non-logical non-thinking…

First invent a strawman - and a flimsy one at that: "It seems kind of odd, in view of the fact that most vegetators - oops, make that "educators" are "tolerant" leftists."

No evidence of this silliness is offered… Personally, I’ve ran into plenty of cross-wearing, bible-believing educators in the public schools and colleges, but that’s just one person. Question: Does your strawman extend to the thousands of teachers employed by private and religious schools?

Then assign them traits: "After all, leftists are always proclaiming their "tolerance"." But since there is no effective definition of either "tolerance" or "leftist," this statement is gibberish…

Then use an isolated example of policy enforcement to try to prove a non-point about a non-group…

And to ice the illogic cake, ignore the fact that the ACLU is suing on behalf of this kid… Remember that the next time you bash the ACLU as being "leftist," whatever that means…

The SCA… Mrs. Possum is a card-carrying SCA member who goes to the events, etc. It’s an unusual sort of thinking that goes into this hobby. People glorify the "romantic" aspects of the middle ages and mostly ignore the fact that by our standards life back then was pure hell. It isn’t history, as the mother of this kid suggests, it’s fantasy. But that’s OK, every American has an inalienable right to absurd ideas - like religion…

But the schools - which in theory are supposed to create and enforce a kind of mainstream normalcy, their original mission - isn’t, as the principal in this case notes, "obligated to provide a forum for every student’s outside interests." Digressively, I have to wonder if they aren’t doing Patrick Agin a favor: In twenty years this might have been embarrassing…

BTW, I don’t have an opinion of the issue, or the ACLU’s involvement - just an opinion on the merits of bad reasoning…

I think it is another case of PC stupidity gone amuck.
If he had brought the sword to school, fine, but a picture/  Who cares?
This is like when the 5 year old got suspended or expelled (not sure which) for having a quarter sized gi joe toy gun in his pocket.

Well, LSU and I can agree, I think, on the basic issue.
PP, on the other hand, just adheres to his usual policy of following me around and making snarky comments.  I must be doing something right!
