Excuse me Speaker Pelosi, sorry to interrupt your party, but there is this problem to the south…

As the new speaker parties to celebrate her coronation:

House Warming- For Democrats and Deadheads, the Gilded Party

Despite the promised "new direction for America," getting the money out of politics and all of that, some facts of Washington life appear immutable and eternal.

"One hundred hours to make this the most honest and open Congress in history," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared at the beginning of a history-making day — which ended last night with the Democrat from California presiding over a glitzy fundraiser open to anyone with $1,000 for a ticket.

They had waited a long time for this night to party, nibble on goat cheese ravioli with pumpkin and truffle, wipe their lips with paper napkins embossed in gold with "Speaker Pelosi January 4, 2007," listen to former members of the Grateful Dead sing "Truckin' " and Tony Bennett sing "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

"Democrats are back!" Pelosi said in her remarks during the few minutes reporters were permitted inside. "We are ready to lead, prepared to govern and determined to make you proud."

But missing from their 100 hour agenda is Immigration reform.  That is an issue they don't seem to be concerned with.

Meanwhile on the border, look what is happening:

Guardsmen overrun at the Border

A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona's border with Mexico.

According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state's West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.

The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.

The Border Patrol says the incident occurred somewhere along the 120 mile section of the border between Nogales and Lukeville. The area is known as a drug corridor. Last year, 124-thousand pounds of illegal drugs were confiscated in this area.

The Border patrol says the attackers quickly retreated back into Mexico.

Got it?  Our border was attacked by people with weapons.

I am sure they were just Deadheads trying to get to Pelosi's party, right?

I encourage everyone to write their representatives and demand border and immigration reform.

That’s right! And if our army wasn’t being destroyed by the neocon warmongers in their sick, futile quest to seize oil and cover Israel’s back that army could be protecting our border!

Are you suggesting anyone in DC has the balls to put our army there?

Sorry that is a straw man arguement.

Oh no… Sorry yourself, Karl… The strawman arguments, like the fearmongering, is coming entirely from the neocon right and their adherents, from Matt Sludge all the way down to ordinary bloggers like yourself, who, despite the fact they got their asses kicked clear up between their ears only two months ago - and despite the fact the Dems have only been in control for ONE DAY - are still attempting to frame the debate and place limitations on the Majority with arguments like you’re making here…

You have no idea what they can or will attempt - and neither does anyone else, themselves included, I think. But I assert as a position that Dems are far more open minded, less organized, and less shackled to dogma than Repubs are capable of being. Don’t put anything beyond them.

And this much is certain: As long as our army is being wasted in mad foreign adventures, they simply aren’t available for anything else.

Venting: I’m consistently disgusted by people, many of whom served like yourself, who nevertheless apparently haven’t studied the histories of war. I didn’t serve, but I did study, and because of that I see why the army has been given an impossible task in Iraq. Win battles? Right up their alley. Hold lines - like our border - no problem. Occupying a hostile Nation in a situation that has no front, no rear, and no rest? NO WAY. It’s the same damn mistake Hitler made in France and Russia.

If "we" get the army home and the idea is advanced and rejected… Then throw rocks. IMO, if it is advanced and rejected, it’ll be the minority working hardest to reject it. As Pat Buchannon has noted, the Repubs are bought and paid for by the US Chamber of Commerce and other business interests - and they are the ones who screw the rest of us by employing the illegal alien mobs.

The Dems main interest in this mess is addressing the humanitarian crisis created by the policies of the past, policies which, in their current incarnation, stem from Reagan’s roll-over amnesty and the stubborn refusal of the old majority to deal with it during their tenure. It’s not the Dems fault that the Repubs allowed a situation to evolve where doing what we should do will wreck thousands of families and impoverish a couple of million kids - many of them US citizens.

And if the Repubs and the religious wrong they represent had pursued comprehensive drug reform, we wouldn’t have drug runners raiding the border…

This is a Republican failure. Deal with it.

    No, sorry yourself sir.

the whole war for oil/isreal is a stupid diversion and strawman, and claiming this war has left us unable to defend outr borders is as well.

We have about 2 million people in our military, while only a 100k or so are deployed.  We could line the border with troops tomorrow but no one has the balls to order it.

You have no idea what they can or will attempt - and neither does anyone else, themselves included

Sure I do.  Amnesty.  Odd that regarding  Wal-mart you deplore all the illegal "beaners" (your racism, not mine) but you dont care that your precious democrats are going to rubber stamp them into the country.

    Who is the hypocrtite now?

And drug reform you complain never happened I assume is legalization?  Drugs would make your comments make more sense at any rate.

The democrats have the chance to prove they care about America, and they better do so quick.  Their rapid elevation proves america is fickle.

And trying to blame this on Reagan just continues to paint you as the blue state hack you really are.
