Governor: Give Voters the Choice

Published by PerriNelson under Washington

In today’s Seattle Times we learn that Ron Sims is probably going to have another temper tantrum

Gov. Christine Gregoire this morning called for a public vote on the Alaskan Way Viaduct to break the political stalemate between an affordable elevated structure and a tunnel that is still financially shaky.

The vote should occur by April within Seattle only. Seattle residents and the city government would be legally responsible to come up with the additional $1.8 billion of expected tunnel cost over what’s available from current gas taxes and federal grants — if city voters approve the tunnel.

If they chose an elevated structure, Gregoire said she expects the state to ensure it’s fully funded. Current costs for that are $2.8 billion, which means lawmakers would need to boost funding about $400 million beyond what the state is contributing now.

Thursday Night Football - blech!

Published by PerriNelson under Just For Fun, Washington

Football on Thursday’s has always been pretty much a lackluster game. Tonight’s game was pathetic, from the commentary before the game about the NFC West being the “runt” of the league to the exceptionally dull and monotonous commentary during the game, to the truly horrific performance by the Seahawks.

The Seahawks offense blew chunks. The defense started the game out pretty well, leaving San Francisco with a whole mess of three-and-outs, but they couldn’t sustain it and the Offense couldn’t even capitalize on it.

It was just a matter of time before San Francisco managed to find their timing, and the Seahawks defense started to lose it. Missed tackles, sacks that turned into touchdowns and the like showed again that the Seahawks have been luckier than good this season.

War on Christmas stupidity- Students ordered to stop singing Christmas songs because special guest Sasha Cohen is half Jewish

Published by LSU under National

To be sure, let's not blame Sasha, she had no idea about it and was apparently "stunned" when she found out.

This is just another example of an official taking preemptive action when none was required, correcting imaginary wrongs and soothing unruffled feathers.

Pretty bad when the officials are idiots and their implied victims have more sense.

When did Christmas Carols become such a problem for crying out loud?

Olympic skater Sasha Cohen "stunned" by Xmas flap

Olympic figure skater Sasha Cohen was "stunned" to learn that a U.S. high school choir had been ordered to stop singing Christmas carols at a holiday show because she is half-Jewish, her mother said on Thursday.

A city official accompanied by a police officer caused a stir by silencing the carols on Tuesday night as Cohen signed autographs after a performance in Riverside, California.
